The strength of the patch you start on depends on how many cigarettes you currently smoke:
- If you smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day, it is recommended that you start with Nicotinell® Patch Step 1. If you smoke less than 20 cigarettes a day, you should start with Nicotinell® Patch Step 2.
- If you are starting on Nicotinell® Patch Step 1, use this strength for 3–4 weeks. Then move on to Step 2 for 3–4 weeks, and finally Step 3 for 3–4 weeks.
- If you are starting on Nicotinell® Patch Step 2, continue for 6–8 weeks before moving onto Step 3 for 3–4 weeks.
